Then I just knew: "That's what I want to be doing..."

Fresh out of the Norwegian Academy of Music, planning to be a classical trumpeter, one day - more or less by chance I happened to be attending a recording session with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and the fabulous and leader and violinist Iona Brown. The session was led by the legendary British producer James Burnett, and after about fifteen minutes of observing him at work and taking in the electric atmosphere of the session I just knew: That's what I want be doing!

Little by little all the trumpets found new homes and now I've been a record producer for over 30 years. I've been fortunate enough to work with a variety of amazing musicians, singers, orchestras and skilled colleagues from all over the world. One part of that wonderful journey was spending nine fascinating and hugely valuable years working as an editor and producer at the world's most famous place for music recording - Abbey Road Studios in London. Even after becoming a freelancer the relationship with EMI Classics continued and I still work regularly for the label - which has now become Warner Classics.

For the past fifteen years I've been running my own production company TakeOne as based in Oslo - mixed in with an incredibly interesting and rewarding 5-year period (2010-2015) as Orchestra Director at The Norwegian Opera & Ballet. During that time I also had a chance to get involved with live broadcast of opera and ballet, and I have since been responsible for the audio production on numerous live operas and ballets at the DNO&B. I very much enjoy the adrenaline and challenges of the live performance and transmission!

After the opera experience, for five years, I dedicated some of my time to serve as Program Director for the Crescendo Mentoring Program. Through that position I’m lucky to be able to give back to the next generation by creating unique possibilities for selected young emerging musicians and give them a best possible start to their careers in collaboration with Janine Jansen and Leif Ove Andsnes.

Presently, in addition to a very hectic life as a recording producer, engineer and editor, I’m also involved in Talent Norway as consultant on Classical music. They support a number of exciting programs for emerging classical musicians all over the country, and it’s hugely rewarding to be able to play a role in creating opportunities for the next generation.

For the past few years I’ve had a chance to renew my relationship with the Oslo Philharmonic through producing all their recordings for Decca Classics with their superb new chief conductor Klaus Mäkelä. This immensely rewarding working relationship has further spurred many other productions with Orchestre de Paris and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
